Genesis 8 & 9

What did I read today? Genesis 8 & 9

What scriptures did God use to speak to me? 8:1 But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock. 8:21 Never again will I curse the ground because of man even though every indication of his heart is evil from childhood. 9:13 It [rainbow] will be a sign of the covenant between men and the earth…9:17…between me and all life on the earth.
What I observed from my reading? God cares for people and animals. When people devalue a life given by God, they devalue him. For he made people in his own image Gen 1:27.

How does this apply to my life? The tongue seems to be the most common way I devalue life. The Bible says the tongue or my words give both life and death Prov 18:21. When I speak negative words of death about someone I not only devalue them but also the God that made them, redeemed them, and remembers them. He more than anyone knows how evil we can be yet he still loves everyone and redeems anyone who will respond to him. God wants me to look at people from his perspective of love 1 John 3:16 rather than focusing on the evil they do. When I change my focus by giving up my opinion (my life) my words will change as well. I will begin to speak life by valuing and encouraging people, which in turn will give value to the God that made them in his image.

Konnecting with God: Help me oh God to implement this truth into my own life and to share it with those I counsel without sounding judgemental or condemning. Lord this knowledge is powerful. Forgive me for the times I have fallen into this death trap. I do not want to demean you by talking negative about any of your creation. Remind me of this prayer anytime my words do not speak life. Please hold me accountable to this. Thank you.  Amen.
