The Schoolteacher and the Bad Boy

Picture
The year is 1905, and Sarah Wendal has been left a penniless young woman, due to the unexpected death of her father. Unwilling to settle for an ill-suited, arranged marriage—or an even more ill-fitting job in her small, northeastern town—Sarah responds to a want ad for a schoolteacher in far-off Wickenburg, Arizona. Despite her inexperience, she is offered the job, and she accepts.

Following a long and somewhat frightening train ride, Sarah arrives in Wickenburg to realize the town is not all she had hoped for. Not only is it hot and dusty but the people are rude, namely a Mr. James Brown, who almost knocks her over at the station. Despite a rough start, she finds a safe place to live, under the watchful eye of her Christian landlady, Mrs. Mary Bradley.

Sarah throws herself whole-heartedly into her work, and the children of Wickenburg are taken with her. As she falls in love with her job, her feelings for the odious James Brown start to change as well. She senses God leading her in strange directions, and walking by faith, she bravely travels her new path. Maybe Wickenburg isn’t so bad after all; maybe the small town is the place she was always meant to be.   Click here to preview The Schoolteacher and the Bad Boy.

My Daily S.O.A.K.

Picture
My Daily S.O.A.K. is a devotional journal designed to take the reader through the New Testament in one year, one chapter and one day at a time. S.O.A.K. is an acronym.  Each chapter of the book assigns the reader a chapter from the New Testament; a Scripture bite, which is a scripture from another part of the Bible; an Observation, which is a thought to ponder; an Application, which is an opportunity for questions and answers, and a Konnection, or short prayer.

Over the years as a pastor and biblical counselor, I have spoken to countless people who are discouraged and depressed because life is not working the way they want it to. They may be new believers or they may have grown up in church. They believe in Jesus and they attend church; however, when I ask them how often they read the Bible the answer is usually that they don't. They know they should read it, but they find it boring and not applicable to their daily lives. There are others who read the Bible regularly and have memorized portions of it, but that isn't working either.

My Daily S.O.A.K. was created to meet the needs of people who do not know how to grow deeper in relationship with God through disciplined daily Bible reading and application. My Daily S.O.A.K. is full of fresh, stimulating, and doable exercises designed to help people fall more in love with Jesus everyday.  Click here to preview My Daily S.O.A.K.
