My husband and I both grew up in the Pacific Northwest. That’s where our children were born, and where we thought we would spend the rest of our lives. However, my husband’s employer had other ideas, and moved our family to Arizona. At first it was a hard adjustment from a four season lifestyle to a desert, but we found friends and a good church. Now our new state has become our home.
One day while exploring around Arizona, I came across a bronze statue—“The School Teacher with Luggage” by J. Seward Johnson. It was outside the Wickenburg, Arizona, train station and visitor’s center. When I saw the statute God birthed a story in me, and I have spent many hours researching, and writing my first Christian historical romance novel, The School Teacher and the Bad Boy. The Bible is my favorite book to read. The morning after I became a Christian I opened mine to verses I had struggled with since I was a child. The words appeared to jump off the page with new understanding. That was the beginning of a journey in God's Word that became the book My Daily S.O.A.K. Check it out by clicking on the title.
What do you do when bad things happen? Many people have experienced tragedies, I know I have. By God’s grace, though, I found it possible to be thankful when the worst of all things happened to me—just like the Bible says in I Thessalonians 5:18.
I invite you to watch the video below. My pastor and boss, Delmer Geesey, took time during a Thanksgiving church service to interview me about my relationship with God and the death of our son.
